Location: Medical Center - Fort Worth Department: Rehab-Downtown FW Shift: First Shift (United States of America) Standard Weekly Hours: 8 Summary: The Inpatient Staff Occupational Therapist will have the education, knowledge and skill to provide in-patient services, focusing on functional skills to enhance development, restore function and to prevent disability from pediatric conditions, illness and injury in an acute medical setting. Evaluation, treatment and home programming are provided for children with: musculoskeletal injuries to upper extremities, fine motor delays, visual perceptual and visual motor impairments, brain injuries and neurological impairments, sensory processing disorders and related problems, hematology and oncology disorders, and neuromuscular conditions. Also includes evaluation for assistive devices and activities of daily living as well as evaluation for and fabrication of splints. The OT will provide therapy services for chronically ill patients admitted to hospital for lengthy stays, as well. The position shall include patient and caregiver education and consultation to other medical professionals, clinics and agencies, both within Cook Children's Health Care System and within the community. Documentation and correspondence pertaining to these services shall follow department and system policies. For housekeeping roles, the day follows a room-by-room schedule β€” cleaning resident rooms, sanitizing common areas, managing laundry, and responding to spill or accident cleanups as they happen. Infection control protocols are more rigorous than in hotels or commercial cleaning, especially during flu season or respiratory illness outbreaks.

Maintenance staff handle a daily work order queue β€” everything from changing light bulbs and fixing call buttons to HVAC maintenance and plumbing repairs. Life-safety equipment checks (fire extinguishers, exit lighting, generator testing) happen on set schedules. Activities professionals plan and lead group programming β€” exercise classes, crafts, music sessions, outings β€” and also provide one-on-one engagement for residents who cannot participate in group settings. Social workers manage care conferences, discharge planning, family mediation, and community resource referrals. Across all these roles, the common thread is that you become a familiar, trusted presence in residents' daily lives.
