The CNA in the Med/Surg Department is an unlicensed assistive person who assists with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-critical patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred. 3. Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred. 4. Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current 5. Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology. 6. What to Expect in This Role Day-to-Day

Your day typically begins with morning routines — helping residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, and getting to breakfast. Throughout the shift, you will assist with meals, escort residents to activities, monitor for changes in behavior or health, and document everything in the care log. Vital signs checks happen at regular intervals, and you will be the first person to notice if something seems off with a resident.

The team dynamic is close-knit. You will work alongside other aides, report to the charge nurse, and communicate with families who visit. In memory care units, redirection and engagement activities are a big part of the role — keeping residents calm, oriented, and socially active. The work is physically and emotionally demanding, but many aides describe deep bonds with the residents they care for and a sense of purpose that keeps them in the field long-term.
