Job Description
Where is The Arbor Company located?
We have senior living communities in 11 different states, but our home office is in Atlanta.
I’m looking for memory care jobs near me. What type of services do you offer?
We have two types of programs for seniors facing the challenges of memory loss, both of which have openings for dementia care jobs. Our one-of-a-kind Bridges program offers meaningful socialization and cognitive work for seniors in the early stages of dementia. Our memory care communities are specifically designed for seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia.
If you have a passion for working with seniors with memory challenges, we encourage you to search for resident care jobs. If you are looking for experienced dementia care specialist jobs, have at least two years of experience in resident care management, and have worked directly with seniors with dementia-related diseases, explore our Memory Care Director role.
Does The Arbor Company only hire for resident care positions?
Our communities have six different departments. Although all of our team members are passionate about working with seniors, four departments are not directly related to resident care or engagement. We hire for independent living, assisted living, memory care, and other retirement community jobs positions in Administration, Dining Services, Maintenance and Housekeeping, and Marketing and Sales.
What types of senior living communities do you have?
Depending on the location, we provide independent living, assisted living, and memory care services. Only some locations offer all three neighborhoods under one roof.
Are any of your positions appropriate for someone who hasn’t worked in senior living before?
Although there are minimum requirements for certain roles, we also have positions for those who haven’t worked in senior living previously or who need additional experience. If you have a passion for working with seniors, are committed to excellence, and want to be part of a high-functioning team, we encourage you to search for opportunities near you in one of our six departments - Administration, Dining Services, Maintenance and Housekeeping, Marketing and Sales, Resident Care, and Resident Engagement.
What is your hiring process?
You’ll discover a real difference in how we approach the hiring process. We look for candidates who not only possess the necessary skills but also exhibit purpose, passion, and excellence.
Of equal importance, we want to help you determine if the Arbor team is the best fit for you. We encourage you to ask questions, and we’ll take time to answer them thoroughly.
I’m currently working as an entry-level employee at another senior living company. Does The Arbor Company hire individuals looking for programs to help them grow their careers in elder care?
Absolutely! Arbor provides opportunities for all team members to reach their fullest potential and thrive in their individual goals. We offer several career growth opportunities and benefits that you can read about here.

What Most Job Listings Don’t Tell You
General overview for this role type — specific duties and requirements vary by employer.
Support roles in senior living — housekeeping, maintenance, activities, and social work — are far more resident-facing than similar positions in other industries. Housekeepers and maintenance staff interact with residents in their personal living spaces daily, which requires discretion, patience, and genuine respect for the people who live there. In Texas, even non-clinical staff must complete facility-specific training on topics like abuse prevention, infection control, and emergency procedures.
Activities coordinators and social workers play a direct role in resident well-being — isolation and depression are significant concerns in senior living, and programming that keeps residents socially engaged has measurable health outcomes. Maintenance staff in senior care need to understand life-safety systems (fire alarms, emergency generators, call systems) and are often the first responders for building emergencies. Background checks are required for all positions, and many facilities prefer candidates who have previous experience working with older adults.
What to Expect in This Role Day-to-Day
Based on typical senior living facilities in the DFW area.
For housekeeping roles, the day follows a room-by-room schedule — cleaning resident rooms, sanitizing common areas, managing laundry, and responding to spill or accident cleanups as they happen. Infection control protocols are more rigorous than in hotels or commercial cleaning, especially during flu season or respiratory illness outbreaks.
Maintenance staff handle a daily work order queue — everything from changing light bulbs and fixing call buttons to HVAC maintenance and plumbing repairs. Life-safety equipment checks (fire extinguishers, exit lighting, generator testing) happen on set schedules. Activities professionals plan and lead group programming — exercise classes, crafts, music sessions, outings — and also provide one-on-one engagement for residents who cannot participate in group settings. Social workers manage care conferences, discharge planning, family mediation, and community resource referrals. Across all these roles, the common thread is that you become a familiar, trusted presence in residents' daily lives.
